A beautiful 1930's French impressionist oil on board depicting a village water well by Jeanne Lauvernay-Petitjean, the wife of Edmond Marie Pettitjean.

The work is very atmospheric and evocative of rural France. The well sits in front of a row of beautiful period buildings, with a warm inviting light coming from the open door of a cafe.

Signed lower right and inscribed on a label verso. Presented in a swept impressionist frame and in very good original condition.
