Gabriel Griffon was born in Toulouse, Southwest France. He is best known for allegorical and genre paintings; his garden scenes and his ‘fêtes galantes’ are reminiscent of the 18th century works of Watteau, Lancret etc but interpreted in a post-impressionist, fluid and ethereal manner.

His light tones, populated by numerous characters, reduced to a harmonious symphony of light spots and his palette is clear and fresh with brushwork which is subtle yet assured.

An appreciated sculptor, working for a long time in Bordeaux, he then divided his life between Nice and Agen (his house at 17 rue Carnot became the Griffon Museum).

Today, his work is in collections in Paris, London, New York, Boston and Geneva.
