Bernard Sickert was born in 1862 in Munich, son of the artist Oswald Adalbert Sickert and the younger brother of Walter Sickert. His family moved to England in 1868. His work was influenced by his father and by Whistler. He wrote a biography on Whistler in 1908.

Sickert was a member of the N.E.A.C. from 1888, and at the Allied Artists' Association 1912–13. He was, with Walter, one of the group of 10 who exhibited together as ‘London Impressionists’ at the Goupil Gallery in 1889.

First exhibition with Walter Sickert at the Dutch Gallery 1895. He often stayed with his brother in Dieppe, and visited Holland, Italy and France. His preferred medium later became pastels. An exhibition of his pastels was held at the Leicester Galleries 1953.
