This beautiful large impressionist oil on canvas by French artist Charles Cermak was painted in the 1930's. The work depicts colourful sailing boats in a harbor on the Côte d'Azur, most likely close to Saint-Tropez, where the artist lived and worked.

Cermak has employed small and thick impasto brushwork to build up the colours of the boats and fishermen, and then looser strokes to build an impression of the sky and sea. A truly evocative depiction of Southeastern France.

This leading example of the artist's work is in excellent original condition and is presented in a beautiful swept frame.

He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1929 to 1931.
