A leading painter of marine and landscape subjects, Michael Edwards enjoyed considerable success having exhibited in leading galleries in England and Wales and won several prestigious prizes for his work. Michael painted predominantly in oils but also used acrylics and watercolours. His subjects were Marine, seascapes, river, lakes, harbours and boats and landscapes, mainly in the West Country, Wales, Venice and Cornwall. His paintings developed in a bolder and more impressionist manner. Using large square brushstrokes, Michael's latter work combined strong elements of representation with a pattern of light and colour which emphasised key aspects of the paintings design and subject matter.

Over the years Michael had published three books and numerous articles in magazines in the UK and overseas. He lived for many years in Gloucestershire near the River Severn at Rodley with his wife Sybil.

Michael Edwards had over sixteen years experience as a successful professional painter and established a considerable reputation for his work. Initially he ran holiday courses in the Cotswolds and wrote two instructional books, 'Painting Towns and Cities' and 'Painting Water' both for the publisher David & Charles. Before his untimely death in 2009 he had painted entirely for exhibitions and galleries and his work is now in many collections in the UK and overseas.

For several years Michael had exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), he had won two prizes at the ROI and one at the Artists Magazine competition for professional artists at Patchings Art Fair. He belonged to two painter groups, the Dobunni Painters, five professional artists who painted in the West Country and the Bristol Savages. He was also President of the Cheltenham Art Club.
