A wonderfully primitive 19th century oil on board painting of a huge prize pig, with a country house in the distance.

In the 19th century it became a fashionable pastime for gentlemen to keep fattened animals, which they would enter into competitions against each other.

Travelling artists would paint a gentlemans animal for a fee, often with interesting results as the artist over emphasized the size of the prized beast.

In its original frame, the painting is in exceptional condition.
