Mid 19th century boiled leather child miners hat. Made from leather that had been treated so that it became tough and rigid.

Boiled leather was used for several purposes, including as armour. This hat would have served as protection for the young miner and still seems every bit as hard as the modern hard hat.

Excellent condition for age and use. No losses.
