A beautiful 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a terrier wearing bells on it's collar and a blue bow. Very well executed with fine detail by the sought after French animal painter Euphemie Muraton. Housed in a fine period gilt frame
Excellent condition, ready to hang
Euphemie Muraton nee Duhanot married fellow French painter Alphonse Muraton (1824-1911) with whom she had one son, Alphonse, also a painter. She exhibited at the Paris salon from 1868-1913, winning several medals, and exhibited in the Women's building at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Muraton's paintings are held by several museums across France, including Dieppe, Le Havre, Mulhouse and Rouen.
Best known for animal and still life paintings, Muraton's works regularly achieve high results at auction. Numerous pre-1974 auction results are recorded on the reverse of the frame. Post 1974 results include:
