A very beautiful signed and dated 1910 oil on canvas depicting an extensive summer landscape with a path leading through hills of heather towards the coast, by the well known Danish artist Emil Wennerwald. The work is very well painted on a good scale which draws the viewer into the relaxing landscape
Artist information:
Emil Wennerwald was a pupil of C.V. Hansen and C.V. Nielsen as a student at the academy of fine art in Copenhagen. After graduating he went to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied from 1878 until 1881. At only 20 years old he travelled to Jutland where painted his first heather picture and made his debut with it as an exhibitor in 1880, going on to exhibit regularly until 1921. Between these years he had a stint as an actor from 1882 to 1886 and as a professor of drawing between 1888 and 1892. He had seven children, including Finn Wennerwald, who became a well known artist in his own right
