Fine large post impressionist oil on canvas by Danish artist Thorvald Nygaard. The beautiful work depicts Copenhagen under a blanket of snow in winter and is very atmospheric. Signed lower left and presented in its original gilt frame. Excellent quality and condition Scandinavian winter cityscape.

Artist information:
Thorvald Nygaard 1892-1973 was a Danish artist who was the son of the Politician Wilhelm Nygaard. He began his formal education as an artist at the age of 21 at the Technical School and Kunstakademiet (the Academy of Fine Arts) in Copenhagen from 1913-1921 and traveled on study tours to Germany, France and The Netherlands.
Nygaard exhibited at the Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg 1919 and 1926 as well as many exhibitions throughout Europe. He is known for his colorful and inspiring city and canal scenes of Copenhagen which found favour with collectors in Europe and America.
