A highly interesting 1950's oil on board that we attribute to David Hockney during his time at Bradford School of Art.

The painting comes from the collection of Gerald French, who studied alongside Hockney and sketched him on a number of occasions. This work is not painted in the style of Gerald French and it is likely to have been a gift to him from Hockney.

Whilst at Bradford School of Art, David Hockney would take his paints out on a small cart made from a pram and painted a number of ''little pictures of semi-detached houses''. Those pictures bear a striking resemblance to this one.

David Hockney famously refuses to authenticate his works, so it is unlikely that the painting can be unequivocally attributed at this time. However, the evidence points to the fact that this is very likely to be an early work painted by one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Please see photos 7, 8 & 9 to confirm the sources of the above information.
