A beautiful c.1920 oil on canvas depicting the famous prehistoric rock formation of Stonehenge under an atmospheric cloudy sky, by Charles Henry Harrison Burleigh. Excellent quality and very early painting of Stonehenge. Signed lower left and presented in a gilt frame.

Charles Henry Harrison Burleigh was a painter of landscapes and interiors who was born in Brighton and studied at Brighton School of Art and in Paris, under J. P. Laurens and Jacques-Emile Blanche. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, Fine Art Society, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, of which he was a member, and Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. He was a member of the Brighton Art Club and examples of his work are in the collection of Brighton Art Gallery, Geffrye Museum, Imperial War Museum, UCL Art Museum, Newport Museum and Art Gallery and Worthing Museum and Art Gallery. Burleigh lived in Hove, Sussex. He was the husband of Averil Burleigh and the father of Veronica Burleigh, both of whom were also artists.
